| After the Storm Caption: "After the Storm", 12" x 8.25", oil on linen "I don’t have any scientific evidence to back this up, but I believe that we are subject to an inordinate amount of fine sunsets in these hills. This particular evening transformation took place after a summer storm passed through. As I drove north of highway 9, the rain fell so heavily that I had to slow down due to reduced visibility. It was short lived though, and by the time I was hiking through this field, there were only a few drops of rain still dripping from above. What was left behind, in addition to drenched grasses that soaked me to my chest, was a dramatic double rainbow, competing with distant lighting in the southern sky. To this was added dramatically changing clouds and hues. As the sun quickly set behind me, I struggled with the futility of trying to capture this awesome view with my paints, as it transformed before my eyes. This, in the end, is the outcome, after some more painting back in the studio. I can only hope it shares a sense of the experience of being there." STATUS: Private Collection |
