Walking Back
Caption: "Walking Back", 9" x 5", oil on linen

"I struck out down the railway tracks near the Credit River with the idea that it might give me access to the river itself for a new painting. Though the river came close a few times, I kept following the tracks. They're kind of mesmerizing that way.... I just wanted to keep following them to see where they would lead. As the sun lowered in the sky and began to cast its shadow around me, I finally resigned myself to turning back, disappointed that I hadn't painted anything.

One can trip easily when hiking along railroad ties, so I kept my head down mostly. Looking up occasionally revealed the sun catching the tree tops, and the sky gently reflecting on the tracks themselves. Thats when I knew I wouldn't be going home empty-handed after all."
