"Winter Winds", Killarney Provincial Park, Georgian Bay

“Winter whiteouts…while not the best conditions for driving in, they can be quite invigorating by snowshoe.

This morning jaunt confirmed this. With the snow at times flying sideways, my friend Simon and I made our way along the Chikinashing Creek in Killarney down to Georgian Bay. Simon had joined us for a couple of days as he was doing for most of the our trips, to document of project photographically. Being from Toronto, and not experiencing this kind of wild environment too much, it was really neat to see Simon’s reaction to the conditions. At one point, standing atop a ridge, he flung his arms out and let out a primitive holler. It was a guttural, excited outburst, brought on I am sure by the winter winds.

In my own way, I too responded to the conditions. And this painting is what came of it."
