"Fall On The Montreal", Montreal River, Lake Superior

“After driving up Hwy 17 north of Sault Ste. Marie for a couple of hours, one crosses the Montreal River. From the road you can see the river pour through the rock walls before passing under the highway and into Lake Superior.

As appealing as the view is from there, I wanted to know what lied above and beyond that crevice. A back road held the solution to my desire and I found myself putting in my canoe above the first dam upriver. Heading deeper into the woods I paddled against a gentle current into a place of peace and solitude. Eventually I settled the bow of the canoe against the shore, and after setting up my tarp over the canoe in an unexpected downpour, got to work.

The rain was actually a blessing. After it let up a bit, the sun came back out, and with the scene freshly soaked, the fall colours were even richer than before.”
