Winter is an incredible time to be on the coast. The landscape is constantly changing, and because we were out later in teh season, we enjoyed longer days.The canoe doesn't have to necessarily be put away either. With caution and the proper gear, a paddle along some of the open stretches will almost guarantee having the water to yourself, and some scenery that few ever have the opportunity to enjoy.

ENTRY 1 - March 1-9, 2002

"The winter trip of our project didn't exactly begin as planned. We made a stop at Swift Canoe in Gravenhurst to pick up a Raven Royalite solo canoe that I'm using for some winter paddling, and stayed over at our relatives, the McCoys, just north of town. So far so good. But this darn pinched nerve in my neck that I had for a couple of weeks was still acting up, and so we opted for a day of R&R there.
