TRIP NOTES:
Chikinashing Creek connects Killarney Provincial Park to Gerogian Bay. A road just west of the main park entrance lead to a parking lot where one can hike down to the bay, but this painting was not from down there. Instead, I found this location by snowshoeing for hours along the rivers edge, only to find myself withiin a few hundred yards south of where the river crosses of highway 637.

"Fresh snow. Nothing quite defines winter like twelve inches of fluffy white stuff. This location, that I found by snowshoeing through all of it, highlighted that for me. We had planned our winter trip for March in the hopes of longer days and more enjoyable weather. It was actually milder than I had expected this day, and the benefit was that the Chikinashing Creek in Killarney Provincial Park was wide open and flowing. I even had the chance to canoe down the river for a ways. The clarity of the water and the blanket of pristine snow made for a memorable experience.
I set up my easle alongside these waters with the late afternoon sun filtering in on the scene. The quiet stillness in the forest at times amplified by contrast the soothing sounds supplied by the stream. Adding to this winter wonderland were tinkling echoes only heard at this time of year as pieces of ice mingled along the shore with the overhanging snow. A delight for all the senses."
