TRIP NOTES
Just south of Wawa is a road that takes you toward Lake Superior and ends at Naturally Superior Adventures. Paddling to the south across the mouth of the Mitchipicotin River, you follow a long beach, and at the end of it is where you will find this scene. |

"The calmness of this scene would lead one to believe that the short paddle it took to get there was just as gentle. Although calm by Superior standards, the direction of the breeze, along with the geology of the land below the water and the swirling flow from the mouth of the Michipicoten River, made for an interesting jaunt as the waves built up deceptively and crashed on the beach. No real danger to speak of, and I would have eventually wound up on the shore had I flipped, it reinforced the continual respect for the lake needed, even when all appears to be quiet.
Reaching the far corner of this natural beach, the waters were truly quieted by the shelter of the island. As the rain began to fall, I set up my tarp and began to lay paint to panel to the rhythmic sounds of the gently lapping waters. The fog hovered as the suns warmth toiled to break through, and I continued working until dark. The soothing sounds of the waters accompanied me back through dusk."
